For todays post we are reviewing The Athlone Springs Hotel as part of our family friendly hotel reviews.
The Athlone Springs Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Athlone, Co. Roscommon.

On arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who gave us a run through of the amenities of the hotel and the kids club. Check-in was quick and easy.

We stayed in a family room which was exceptionally spacious and clean. The room contained one double bed and four full size single beds making it an ideal choice for larger families and excellent value for money.
Being directly over the leisure centre, however, the bedroom was very warm and with no air conditioning we had to use the fans provided, which were quite noisy and due to the size of the room were not adequate.
Although Wi-Fi is advertised, we could not pickup a Wi-Fi signal in our room.

The leisure centre was clean, and again the staff were very friendly. The changing rooms were spacious, with a travel cot to place your little one, if needs be, while you are getting changed. The pool area consisted of a kids pool, a larger pool, a sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. Fresh, clean towels are provided on arrival.
The pool area and the pool itself was cold, resulting in us cutting our stay in the leisure centre short, which was disappointing for both ourselves and the children. However, we have been advised there was a maintenance issue that day, which has since been rectified.

The food in the bar was delicious, and the children’s menu was varied and good value for money. Colouring pages and crayons were provided to keep the children entertained and staff were very attentive to the children’s needs.

At breakfast there was an option of a hot and cold buffet breakfast, however it was quite limited, in our opinion, for a 4 star hotel. There was a small selection of fresh fruit, cereal, pastries and bread.

The Koala kids club runs two sessions each day, catering for children aged 4-12 years. It consists of a room on the ground floor of the hotel, where the children can play games, and watch movies, supervised by staff. However, we found the room to be quite small and basic. A great idea incorporated into the evening session was the inclusion of a dinner option for the kids in the kids club, allowing parents to have their own meal in the restaurant.

In summary, The Athlone Springs Hotel has the potential to be a great family friendly hotel if the above points were addressed.

Further hotel amenities include:
– Free parking
– 24hr reception
– Supermarket, pharmacy, and café adjacent to hotel
– 5-10 min drive to town centre
